Each door is different, if you don't feel comfortable making repairs contact the original installer or manufacturer to get a certified repair person.
Warranty, your builder warranty typically covers the first year. It is important to get any dents or other concerns listed on the PDI to ensure builder will make repairs.
1. Inspect the door
- Does it operate smoothly
- Is it noisy
- check for damage to the weather stripping
- Clean track
2. Safety Test
Mechanical stop/revers- Place a piece of wood under door and close the door, the safety feature should reverse the door once it hits the piece of wood.
Balance- Disengage the garage door lift (pull red rope) Lift the garage door manually a foot or two then release, the door should not drop.
Photocell- Check to make sure the light is on, which indicates the two photo cells are aligned. Close the door and then place object in the path, the photocells should pick up an obstruction and quickly back up door.
3. Replace batteries
Key pad and remote typically require batteries and the first place to look when a malfunction is found.
